Here at the Victoria Wood Theatre, we’re working hard to continue Beatrix Potter's legacy and minimise our impact on the environment.
We run a green building with electric vans, peat free & organic gardening, a tap to plant a tree donation station, plastic and paper recycling along with coffee grounds from the theatre bar.
Recently, the Theatre undertook its largest investment in sustainability by replacing all our theatre lights, changing lantern stock from incandescent halogen lamps to the colour-changing light-emitting diode and in doing so reducing energy use, This coupled with a solar panel installation was part of our commitment to reduce the environmental impact of our day-to-day operation.
100% LED
It was essential that in converting to 100% LED lights in our Theatre we had a rig versatile enough to accommodate the requirements of the many touring shows that appear at our venue. The power and data distribution system also required improvement to facilitate the operation of LED lights. The lighting fixtures at The Victoria Wood Theatre need to be able to light a wide range of shows, from family-focused productions of Beatrix Potter classics to stand-up comedians and musicians. Selecting fixtures that could be used for different lighting setups was of paramount importance.
Following a successful project, the Victoria Wood Theatre is proud to operate an efficient and practical lighting rig that maximises workflow efficiency and creative capacity. The new system saves touring productions money by eliminating the need to purchase consumables such as gels and gobos. The flexibility of moving lights enables quicker turnaround times by reducing the need to adjust fixture positions. One of the greatest benefits of the upgrade has been the improved energy efficiency. The theatre has reported using 88% less electricity compared to when it used a tungsten lighting rig. With no lamps to change, the waste is now almost zero.
The new LED lights have given the venue enormous flexibility, and as a designer, I now have a fantastic selection of fixtures to light productions with. The new lights have quite simply transformed how the venue works and had an outstandingly positive impact.
